KUCHING: Misplaced generosity by certain non-government organisations in Malaysia is making it difficult to tackle the problem of homeless people in this country.
Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim, said the group of homeless people felt pampered by the NGOs which gave them food on the streets.
"I do not oppose them from giving food to the homeless, but they should do so at suitable welfare places," she said on Monday during a Ministry programme with local bloggers here.
She said discussions were held with the NGOs involved so they could channel the aid via suitable conduits.
She said her Ministry had provided numerous accommodation facilities and training for the homeless to take them off the street. - Bernama
