KUALA LUMPUR: A dead chicken and red paint, along with A4 printouts of Seputeh MP Teresa Kok's image, were found on the staircase leading to the DAP lawmaker's office in Seputeh on Wednesday.
A cleaner found the items and notified the management of the building, Emily Sim Foo Lan, who then called Kok.
Sim, 41, said she had filed a police report on behalf of the eight units that share the building's staircase.
Kok condemned the act and has stated her belief that it was related to her Onederful Malaysia CNY 2014 video.
"It's a public area. I feel sorry for the other units that share the staircase," said Kok.
It was believed that the dead chicken, red paint and A4 printouts were thrown into the building from outside, as the gate to the staircase was locked.
The culprit was not captured on video as the building only has CCTV from the first floor onwards.
Workers from a nearby restaurant, which opens at 6am, claim they saw the items when they opened their shop for business on Wednesday morning, adding that there was nothing unusual when they closed the shop at 11pm Tuesday night.
Kok revealed that on Feb 5, a wreath addressed to her was also found at the entrance to the building.
All these "threats", including an NGO's reward offer for anyone to slap her, have made the public upset, claimed Kok.
"Many members of the public have expressed concern for my safety," said Kok, adding that she's not considering hiring bodyguards as it is "troublesome".
Though she feels threatened, Kok said she's working as usual and is relying on her colleagues to ensure her safety at functions.
She urged social media and bloggers to stop playing up and distorting the issue, saying that "enough is enough".
"It's really unthinkable. There's a group of people who are bent on turning everything into a racial issue, twisting simple things that I do in such a manner that it threatens my security," she said.
Kok urged the police to investigate the matter.
City CID chief Asst Comm Khairi Ahrasa confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 506, 352 and 427 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
“We believe that the incident is related to the Onederful Malaysia CNY 2014 video.
This is a very serious matter and investigations are being carried out to track those behind it,” he said when contacted.
