PETALING JAYA: The Star remains the number one English daily in circulation numbers in the English newspapers sector in Malaysia.
The latest report from Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC) showed an increase of 40,080 copies to 338,368 in 2013, compared to the same period the previous year.
The Sunday edition of The Star also recorded an increase to 339,002 in 2013, compared to the same period the previous year, which stood at 300,431.
From this, the digital edition of The Star daily recorded a circulation figure of 49,006 last year, an increase from 7,722 in the same period the year before.
The significant increase was also reflected in the Sunday edition which went up from 7,825 copies in 2012 to 46,777 copies for the same period in 2013.
The Star group chief marketing officer Angelina Villanueva said this was a result of the commitment that the company put into producing quality content that Malaysians and the public still want to access.
“The positive take-up of the digital edition – ePaper – also clearly shows that we have successfully adapted to the changing needs and behaviours of the people as we transit to a more digital and connected society. You can certainly expect more from us in the coming years,” she added.
The upward trend in the latest report is a clear indicator that print remains a strong player in the local media landscape.
At the same time, the high adoption of the digital edition of newspapers demonstrates the relevance in today’s mobile lifestyle.
