It is learnt that Noor Hasmahani Hashim injured her back when she fell down a 10m slope near checkpoint 11 and landed on some tree branches.

Noor Asmahani started the hike up the hill alone in the morning. Another female hiker who saw Noor Asmahani fall alerted the Fire and Rescue Department at about 10.30am.

Ampang Fire and Rescue Station operations officer Kaha Abdul Halim said it took his men almost two hours to hike into the area where the incident took place.

“When we found her at about 1.10pm, she was stuck on a tree some 10 metres down the ravine,” he told reporters at the entrance of the Bukit Tabur hiking trail.

He added that the victim was still conscious when the rescuers found her.

“It is difficult for rescuers to lift her up the ravine as it might cause more injury to her back.

"We had to make sure that she was safely carried up the ravine before we bring her out," he said adding that the steep slopes and narrow trail made rescuing difficult.

Last month, private school science teacher Ng Pee Tat, 32, died from injuries after he fell several metres down a steep slope at the hill on Dec 3 2013.

Previous fatalities at Bukit Tabur involved two medical specialists who were both experienced trekkers.
