Hasan Malek: Work with us to create fair market for all

KUALA LUMPUR: Be a smart consumer and work with the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry in creating a fair market for all, said minister Datuk Seri Hasan Malek on Friday.

"We haven't received any complaints. My enforcement team are on the ground engaging with the people to see if any goods are going up unfairly.

"We aim to work with other agencies such as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and so on to ensure action is taken if businesses raise prices unfairly," he said at the launching of a Back to School programme here.

He also urged businesses to be considerate.

“Please help the ministry and don’t raise prices unreasonably,” he said.

On former Prime Minister Tun Mahathir Mohamad’s statement that the Government should cut costs instead of raising prices, Hasan said he disagreed but respected the former premier’s views.

“We will look at Tun’s views as well as those of the public. We want the best system.”

Those seeking to make a complaint can call the ministry hotline at 1-800-886-800, or email e-aduan@kpdnkk.gov.my.
