PJ city council reveals new pedestrian crossings and bus routes

A pedestrian crossing will be built at Jalan Utara connecting the Asia Jaya LRT and the Armada Hotel side soon.

The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) revealed the plan after the issue was highlighted in StarMetro on Aug 18.

This will be part of the council’s short-term plan to accommodate pedestrian’s needs when the Petaling Jaya city centre one-way route is implemented on Oct 12.

The council, in a statement, has urged the public to use the existing facilities available during the trial period such as the overhead bridges located at Jalan Sultan near Kompleks ‘C’ and near both the SK Sri Petaling and SM (L) Bukit Bintang.

The council also encouraged the public to make use of the two push-button crossings placed at Jalan Timur in front of the TNB building and Jalan Barat near the MCIS building.

A council spokesman said pedestrian push-button traffic lights will be available in six locations in the second phase, which is estimated to start in January next year.

Besides the pedestrian traffic lights at Jalan Utara near the Asia Jaya LRT, there will be another set of lights built near SM (L) Bukit Bintang connecting SK Sri Petaling.

At Jalan Timur, the pedestrian crossing will be in front of the TNB building connecting Amcorp Mall.

There will be another pedestrian crossing from Amcorp Mall to the Jalan Timur field.

At Jalan Sultan, the pedestrian crossing will be located near the Bangunan Persekutuan while at Jalan Barat, the crossing will be near Wisma MCIS.

The council is still waiting for approval from the Public Works Department (JKR) to finalise the new public bus routes for the one-way system.

However, the council revealed a short-term plan for buses from both directions of the Federal Highway during the trial period.

“On Sept 4, the council chaired a meeting with authorities such as the different bus operators, Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) and JKR.

“Discussion over the possible routes for buses from both directions, Kuala Lumpur and Shah Alam/Klang took place .

“On Sept 10, MBPJ accompanied SPAD and JKR for a site visit.

“The council is still waiting for a route approval from JKR,” she said.

The spokesman also said that MBPJ planned to build a transit bus stop along the Federal Highway on the Kuala Lumpur-bound lane to support the one-way route system.

During the trial period, buses from Kuala Lumpur towards Shah Alam/Klang will enter Jalan Timur and move towards Jalan Sultan, Jalan Barat and exit to Federal Highway via the existing bus stop outside Qi Tower, PJ8.

Buses from Shah Alam/Klang heading to Kuala Lumpur will enter Jalan Utara through an existing slip road and pass the shaded transit bus stop near the Asia Jaya LRT opposite Armada Hotel before going along Jalan Utara and exiting at Federal Highway.
