Sungai Kelimut NCR land project in accordance with state’s policy to assist natives

KUCHING: The Court of Appeal has declared that the Konsep Baru NCR Land Development Scheme at Sungai Kelimut, Kanowit, does not contravene Section 8 of the Land Code.

Appellate judges Datuk Balia Yusuf Wahi, Datuk Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat and Datuk George Varghese held that the scheme, designed to develop 1,886 hectares of native customary rights (NCR) land belonging to 168 Iban landowners into an oil palm plantation, was in accordance with the state government’s policy to assist the natives in developing their land.
