ANIMAL shelter Cherishlife Home will finally get a generator set to help it continue operations through a power cut.
Thanks to the volunteer organisers of the Best Damn Excuse charity event, about RM35,000 was collected for the animal home, which practises a no-kill policy.
“The generator set will also be used for water pumps from which supply is used to clean the shelter and bathe the dogs,” said the home’s founder Winnie Lau, who also expressed her gratitude to the fundraisers.
Located in Hulu Langat, Cherishlife faces difficulty getting sufficient water and power supply.
The home provides shelter to more than 200 dogs and 40 cats, which were mostly abandoned.
“A similar fundraising event last year managed to raise enough money to pay some outstanding veterinary bills and buy pet food,” she said.
The Best Damn Excuse charity event was held at El Sid’s Bar, which was the venue sponsor, where the public brought their pet dogs dressed up in creative costumes for the best dressed competition.
There was also a dog buffet offering healthy homemade dog treats sold at RM10 a pack, aside from a dog-kissing booth and various games to entertain visitors.
In addition, an auction was held which saw 26 bottles of liquor on the block.
“All the bottles were donated,” said event organiser Dee Dee Quah.
Quah said she was not from any organisation or group and that everyone there were friends and people who believed in this cause.
Apart from raising money, the event was also aimed at creating awareness of abandoned animals and to give them a second chance.
