The soul and passion of Freddie Aguilar

To live your dream life, learn to trust that inner voice, says Filipino music legend Freddie Aguilar.

MOST hit songs have an intriguing story behind them, but a pile of dirty laundry hardly seems like the seed for a chart topper. Yet, that’s exactly the source of inspiration for Freddie Aguilar’s cross-boundary smash hit, 1978’s Anak. The Filipino singer-songwriter was gripped by solitude one hot afternoon at his relocated home in Subic City, 120km from Manila, where he plied his trade in the 1970s at the resident watering holes in the Naval base municipality, hoping to get his music career moving as he entertained many an American officer.
