Malaysian consumers are looking at buying e-vouchers, groceries, clothing and electronics online during the Ramadan and Raya festival celebrations, according to online shopping marketplace 11street.
According to 11street’s findings, there was a significant increase in the purchase of e-vouchers in 2016. Specifically, the search for food and beverage e-vouchers surged to more than 1.2 million during the Ramadan period for that year.
“Malaysian shoppers keep surprising us. During the Ramadan Raya period in 2015 and 2016, we experienced more than a 2.5 times surge in overall online sales,” said 11street CEO Hoseok Kim.
11street projects online sales to continue to increase this year by at least 50% throughout the Ramadan and Raya periods.
“This year, we expect consumers to purchase more e-vouchers especially for buka puasa buffets,” added Kim.
As the Hari Raya holiday period approaches, 11street also anticipates Malaysians’ search for car services and road safety-related items to multiply as they prepare to balik kampung. Since its inception in 2015, 11street has witnessed at least a three-fold increase in both searches and online sales for baby car seats and car maintenance packages.
11street said all these patterns were driven by the lower prices found online, the convenience of online shopping coupled with the variety of products available, noting that gaming laptops and sports jerseys also sell well during the Hari Raya period.
In line with these findings, the online shopping marketplace is launching a special Raya promotion for bargain hunters – from now till July 23, 11street's Gila Gila Raya promotion will offer consumers prices starting from RM1 on various merchandise, along with credit cash back of up to 22%, as well as instant shipping and free delivery on selected items.
