Sony launches new Xperia X models

Sony Mobile has expanded its Xperia X series with the launch of XZ Premium and XA1 Ultra. 

Touted as the company’s most cutting-edge smartphone to date, the XZ Premium has a 4K HDR (High Dynamic Range) 5.5in display which uses Sony’s Bravia TV technology to give vivid colour, brightness, clarity and contrast to the screen. Users are however required to stream or download 4K HDR content to enjoy the display at its full capacity. 

“As we enter this new phase of the Xperia X series, we hope that we can continue to deliver products that are as effective as they are innovative,” said Sony Mobile Country director for Malaysia Andrew Cheong. 

The XZ Premium has a 19-megapixel main camera, capable of capturing 960fps (frames per second) slow motion videos thanks to Sony’s Motion Eye system. It also features the Predictive Capture technology that automatically detects motion and takes up to four images before the shutter button is even pressed.  

With a 13-megapixel f/2.0 front camera, the XZ Premium is powered by a 3,230mAh battery and is IP65/68 dust and water resistant. It also has a fingerprint sensor on the power button.  

The XZ Premium packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor with 4GB RAM, and comes with 64GB internal storage which can be expanded to up to 256GB with a microSDXC card. It has a 16GBps download speed, though that is mobile network operator dependant. 

As for the Xperia XA1 Ultra, the 6in phablet comes with a borderless edge-to-edge screen, 64GB internal storage, 4GB RAM and is powered by MediaTek Helio P20 octa-core processor. It has a 2,700mAh battery with quick charging capability, and a Stamina mode that prolongs battery time by disabling some functions of the device.

Like its predecessor the XA1, the XA1 Ultra comes with a 23-megapixel main camera with predictive hybrid autofocus. However, this time, it has an upgraded 16-megapixel front-facing camera with Optical Image Stabilisation to improve low-light selfies and the offset the effect of shaky hands. 

Priced at RM3,399, the XZ Premium comes in Luminous Chrome and Deepsea Black, with a Bronze Pink variant to be available at a later date. The XA1 Ultra is priced at RM1,899 and will be available in White, Black, Pink and Gold. 

Pre-orders are open for both models from now until June 4 at selected Sony Stores, authorised dealers as well as 11street.my. 

Those who pre-order the XZ Premium will receive free gifts worth RM728, including a SBH80 Stereo Bluetooth Headset, limited edition Touch ‘n Go card preloaded with RM100, Screen Warranty Care+ and a transparent case with tempered glass screen protector.
