Maybank2u app to bar jailbroken and rooted devices

Maybank users who have jailbroken or rooted their devices will no longer be able to access the Maybank2u app soon.

According to a notice on the bank’s website, the move is part of the new security upgrade to protect users banking transactions from emerging threats.

The new policy which affects both Android and iOS users will be implemented on Saturday, March 4.

"Jailbroken and Rooted devices are vulnerable to fraudulent attacks and as part of our effort to protect your banking transactions, devices with lower security will be prevented from using the Maybank App,” according to the circular.

Jailbreaking is the process of removing the software restrictions on an iPhone or iPad which are put in place by the manufacturer, in this case Apple. Rooting on the other hand is a similar process of removing the security restrictions on Android devices.

This is often done to either allow the installation of unapproved third party apps, overclocking (to make a device faster) or the replacement of the stock system software. 

If you are a Maybank user and have tampered with your device, there are still two days to go before the policy comes into effect. So you may want to reinstall the official OS.
