Fast 1Gbps broadband Internet speeds are now possible in Malaysia -- but only for business users in Cyberjaya.

The high speed broadband service, called Aries Infinity, is being introduced by Aries Telecoms (M) Bhd in collaboration with Setia Haruman Technology Sdn Bhd, which provides the fibre optic infrastructure in Cyberjaya.

Setia Haruman's fibre optic network covers some 90% of the buildings in Cyberjaya, all of which will have the option to subscribe to the Aries Infinity service.

The Aries Infinity service is complemented by full end-to-end support for IPV6 which provides support for a wider range of IP addresses than the current IPV4 technology.

Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Datuk Seri Dr. Salleh Said Keruak, said that the government recognises the importance of IPV6 to the country's development and welcomes Aries Telecom's support for the technology.

According to Datuk Zuraidi Rahim, chairman of Aries Telecoms, the company intends to expand its coverage to selected business areas in Klang Valley and other major towns in Malaysia as well and hopes to do so before the end of the year.
