Facebook opens up live streaming to all verified pages

LOS ANGELES: Facebook is taking the next step towards live video: The social network is now letting anyone with a verified Page go live with its video streaming service. 

Facebook automatically notifies anyone who has recently interacted with a page or subscribed to the page's live video updates when the page owner goes live, and any concluded live stream is being posted as a regular video on the page in question. 

Facebook has been gradually expanding its live streaming service to more users over the past few months. 

The service first became available to celebrities thus summer, and Facebook has also been testing it with a few verified page publishers, including The Tonight Show, U2 and AJ+. 

Earlier this month, Facebook began to open up Live to a small subset of its US-based iPhone users, with the goal of eventually making it available to everyone. 

Facebook's live video streaming is squarely competing with other social live video apps, most notably Twitter's Periscope. But the service is also a good way to further boost video viewing on Facebook. The social network already clocks more than eight billion video views every single day. — Reuters
