Listen to the kids: Safe Mode Kids features the voices of Malaysian children between the age of three and 12.

In a survey, 97% of Malaysian parents claimed to drive much safer when children and this prompted Maxis to create a voice pack for car navigation app Waze.

The Safe Mode Kids pack features voices from children aged three to 12 to remind parents to drive safer.

“Let’s face it – parents do drive safer when kids are in the car. So we worked with Waze to put kids in as many Malaysian cars as possible,” said Sulin Lau, Maxis head of marketing services.

“With the festive season approaching and knowing that Malaysia ranks 17th in the world for most dangerous roads, we thought Safe Mode Kids could be a charming and effective way to remind our fellow Malaysians to drive safer.”

A total of 60 children auditioned for the project but only 20 voices were selected to be used in the voice pack.

The directional prompts include “All set. Don’t forget your seat belt”, “Re-routing. Eyes on the Road”, and “Accident reported ahead. Please be careful, okay?”.

It also features the proper pronunciation for Jalan which the other voice packs get wrong.

There are no plans to introduce more contents but Maxis may release another voice pack next year if the number of downloads are encouraging.

To download the voice pack, open Waze and head to Settings then Sound and select English (US) Safe Mode Kids powered by Maxis. The voice pack will be available as a free download until the end of the year.

Waze has already released a number of special voice packs featuring personalities such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Colonel Sanders and Leandro Barbosa.
