AirAsia is gold sponsor for KL SEA Games and Asean Para Games

AirAsia Bhd posted net profit of RM554.20mil in the fourth quarter ended Dec 31, 2015 compared with a net loss of RM428.51mil a year ago, boosting the full year FY15 earnings to RM540.96mil.

SEPANG: AirAsia Berhad has come on board as one of the gold sponsors of the Aug 19-31 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games and Sept 17-23 Asean Para Games.

The airline will come in as a gold partner, contributing between RM3mil-RM7.5mil – in cash and flights – for the Games.

AirAsia executive chairman Datuk Kamarudin Meranun said they were pleased to be a sponsor of one of the biggest sporting events in South-East Asia.

“We, at AirAsia, have always been close to sports. We have sponsored several football clubs like Manchester United and local side My-Team before. We also own the Petaling Jaya Rangers FC. It’s a natural thing for us to support sports.”

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin also attended yesterday’s sponsorship ceremony.

Khairy said the Malaysia SEA Games Organising Committee (Masoc) were close to securing the RM80mil sponsorship needed to host the two Games.

“For the in-kind sponsorship, we have received RM50mil or 98% of our target. As for cash sponsorship, we are short of RM9mil. We have a few more sponsorships to be announced and finalised, so I’m quite happy with our progress,” said Khairy.

The other two sponsorship categories are the platinum (RM7.5mil to RM15mil) and bronze (up to RM1mil).
