Red-hot Selangor are Sukma overall champions


KUCHING, 27 Julai -- Raja Muda Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah berkenan meraikan kejayaan bersama skuad renang dan terjun Selangor yang berjaya mengumpul 20 pingat emas dari acara akuatik semasa hadir menyaksikan acara renang di Sukma ke-18 di Pusat Akuatik Kuching hari ini. --fotoBERNAMA (2016) HAK CIPTA TERPELIHARA

KUCHING: Selangor emerged as the overall champions for a record ninth-time in the 18th Sukma which ended on Saturday.

They won 59 golds, 73 silvers and 63 bronzes to finish ahead of hosts Sarawak, which had a medal haul of 57-43-59.

Terengganu finished third with 46-41-44.

The Games were inaugurated in 1986 in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor were the overall champions in 1988, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2013.

The Selangor golds came from swimming (20), shooting (six), artistic gymnastics (five) and three each from cycling, athletics, silat olahraga, karate and diving; and two each from weighlifting, tennis, badminton and archery; one each in taekwondo, sailing, petanque, wushu and volleyball.
