PETALING JAYA: Ann Osman tasted sweet victory when she defeated Ana Julaton via spilt decision at the ONE FC: Reign of Champions to claim her first professional win.
Going up against the more illustrious Julaton, Ann showed she was unfazed to stand toe-to-toe with the former WBO and IBA Super Bantamweight world champion at the Dubai World Trade Centre on Friday.
Ann had waited 10 long months for a fight since her debut loss to Singapore’s Sherilyn Lim (also viaa split decision) at ONE FC: Total Domination last October.
And it was the 28-year-old Sabahan who took the fight to Julaton, stamping her class in the match with her superior wrestling skills as she locked the 34-year-old Filipino-American in an arm-bar before the end of round one.
Ann picked up right where she left off in the second round, nearly securing an arm-bar once again before Julaton wriggled free and landed blows on the Malaysian. Julaton looked to gain the upper-hand in the third, giving the fans a glimpse of her striking prowess with some sublime boxing combinations.
But Ann managed to secure a takedown before Julaton fought back, sending sharp knees as the bout came to an end. And it was the Malaysian's hands that was raised as she scored probably the most important victory of her burgeoning mixed martial arts career.
In other matches, Malaysian muay thai specialist Ali Yaakub fell to Thailand’s Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke in the first round via a rear naked choke.
