Josiah breaks his collarbone in crash


PETALING JAYA: It was a sorry start for Malaysia when cyclist Josiah Ng broke his collarbone in a nasty crash in the first round of the keirin event at the World Track Championships in Mallorca, Spain, yesterday. 

Josiah was stretchered off the piste and taken to a hospital. He has been ruled out of the competition.

Italian Roberto Chiappa cut into Josiah’s path during the eight-lap event, knocking the Malaysian down. 

Chiappa was later disqualified after it was ruled he caused the accident.

Malaysia’s other representative, Mohd Rizal Tisin also bowed out of the keirin event after failing to advance from the repechage round. Rizal, the Asian Championships gold medallist in the event, failed to clear the first round.
