Aussie Ovcin given the boot by Penang

PENANG: It’s back to three for the Panthers. They have booted out midfielder Boris Ovcin almost mid-way into their Super League campaign.

The 21-year-old Australian, who was hired with the hope of re-inforcing the Penang midfield, has failed to impress and FA of Penang (FAP) secretary Mohd Junid Mohd Noor confirmed yesterday that Ovcin has been told to go.

“As a foreigner, he is expected to be better than our local players. But he failed to create an impact,” said Mohd Junid. “A mutual agreement with Ovcin was reached at the end of last month.”

Penang can afford to let Ovcin go now that they have Brazilian Jose Barreto. The 28 year-old was an instant hit when put together with Penang’s two other imports – Romanian Cristian Teodor and Russian Viatcheslav Melnikov.
