31st of August is always special to all Malaysians. It is the day a nation was born. After 446 years of Portuguese, Dutch, English and Japanese occupation; Malaysia and Malaysians were finally free.
However, colonisation by foreign powers also dramatically altered the social-economic and political landscape of Malaysia. Malaysia became a diverse country with migrants from China and India becoming citizens in their own right after independence.
