REMEMBER our Look East Policy? It was 34 years ago when Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad wanted us to literally look to the East, to Japan, to learn from its culture, management style and work ethics.

While thousands might have gone there to study and be trained, the Japanese influence, apart from a proliferation of Japanese restaurants, never quite took root here.
