Local Freddie Mercury lookalike sparks 'Biryani Wrapsody' puns

PETALING JAYA: A Twitter post on a Freddie Mercury lookalike in a local restaurant went viral, proving that "we are the champions", at least in having a good laugh.

The post titled "Biryani Wrapsody" by Twitter user Nazrudin Rahman showed a screenshot capture of a post from another social media account user.

The original post by Wen Harn Loo showed a restaurant worker standing by a tandoori barbeque outside food outlet Chennai Spice Cyberjaya.

The Twitter user said, it’s “because his face is like Freddie Mercury’s…”

This began a thread of witty puns closely related to the lyrics of the famous song, Bohemian Rhapsody, with a twist of typical "mamak restaurant" references.

The thread became viral and has since gained 8737 retweets and 5094 likes.

Moreover, a number of Twitter users agreed that he does indeed look like the famous rock star.

One comment by afiqahnz read, “He looks so much like him”. Another comment by natikah26 read, “No wonder it’s like I’ve seen him. I stared at his face for some time. For real right?”

With the recent hype about the latest movie about Mercury, this made it all the more merry.

According to a news portal, the movie Bohemian Rhapsody rocked the box office, bringing US$50 million (RM209mil) when it debuted in 4,000 theatres in North America.

It also cited that the movie generated a mixed critical response, though audiences have embraced it with a 96 per cent score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The movie opened in cinemas nationwide on November 8, 2018.
