SUNGAI BULOH: The Malaysian Sports Commissioner's Office will lodge a police report on Tuesday (Dec 12) against the organisers of the Klang City International Marathon 2017 over failure to obtain a licence to run the event, said Khairy Jamaluddin.

The Youth and Sports Minister said so far, a one police report was made after three participants were hit by a car during the marathon on Sunday (Dec 10).

Khairy said the organisers should have obtained the green light from the Sports Commissioner's Office before getting approval from the police and local council under the Sports Development Act 1997.

"This is an offence under the Sports Development Act and if found guilty, they can be fined not more than RM5,000 or imprisoned not more than six months as stated in the Act," said Khairy after visiting one of the victims, Evelyn Ang, at Hospital Sungai Buloh here on Monday (Dec 11).

Ang, 44, an avid runner, suffered severe head injuries in the crash and underwent surgery at the hospital.

The three participants were hit by the car at around 4.30am on Jalan Kapar Batu 2 at the 14km mark of the marathon.

The other victims, Amiruddin Hamid, 37, and Ahmad Hadafi Jus, 42, suffered head and ankle injuries which were not as severe as Ang's.

Amiruddin is still admitted at Hospital Klang for treatment while Ahmad Hadafi received outpatient treatment.
