New EIS Bill to be tabled

A FRESH Employment Insurance System (EIS) Bill 2017 is expected to be tabled today, Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem said.

This follows the withdrawal of the EIS Bill in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday at the start of the Question and Answer session.

“The Government is committed to implementing the EIS in January 2018.

“The implementation of the EIS will cover about 430,000 employers and 6.6 million workers in the private sector,” Riot said.

Workers who lose their jobs and have contributed for a certain period are eligible to claim financial assistance from the EIS.

They can also access employment services, including career counselling, job searching and matching, placement and training, to increase their re-employability.
