Noh Omar: Guan Eng should quit over landslide tragedy

KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Noh Omar (pic) has challenged DAP's Lim Kit Siang to tell his son to resign over the tragic landslide that killed 11 people in Tanjung Bungah, Penang.

The Urban Well-being, Housing and Local Government Minister said such response was apt as Kit Siang had blamed him for a fire that razed a religious school in Kuala Lumpur last month.

"Kit Siang blamed me for the tahfiz fire and now I am challenging him to tell his son, Guan Eng, to resign," he told reporters at the Parliament media centre here on Monday.

Kit Siang had reportedly pointed the finger at Noh for the Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah tahfiz fire that killed 22 people.

He had said that Noh should be sacked from his position or transferred to another ministry for failing to ensure "urban well-being".

On Saturday, 11 workers including a site supervisor were killed when they were carrying out work at the basement area of an affordable housing project when disaster struck at about 8.30am.

Guan Eng had insisted that the landslide was a construction tragedy, despite the project not getting the approval from the National Resources and Environment Ministry, as it was located next to a quarry site.
