Trio implicated in Sabah graft case out on bail

KOTA KINABALU: Three youth leaders from two political parties who were remanded over an ongoing graft probe are all smiles after their remand expired and they were released on bail.

Tenom Umno Youth chief Jamawi Jaafar and his Tawau counterpart Ariffin Kassim, as well as Parti Warisan Sabah Youth chief Azis Jamman, were released after their remand expired on Tuesday.

The trio were first remanded on Oct 10 and were presented before Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus at about 10.40am Tuesday.

Azis and Ariffin were allowed RM50,000 bail with a RM30,000 deposit and two local sureties each, while Jamawi was given RM20,000 bail with two local sureties.

After their release, the trio cheered and raised their linked arms while Azis shouted “freedom”.

Mohd Faliq Basirudin of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) appeared for the prosecution.

Jamawi, Ariffin and Azie were among nine people arrested by the MACC in the probe involving RM1.5bil worth of funds meant for rural development projects in Sabah.
