KUALA LUMPUR: The Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry is seeking RM1bil in funds over the next five years to develop and implement its Green Technology Master Plan 2017.
Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili (pic) said the masterplan outlines Malaysia's strategic plans for green technology development to create a low carbon and resource efficient economy.
"The masterplan, endorsed by the Government, provides a consistent framework to align the strategic goals of stakeholders across the country, enabling a concerted national effort that will leverage on green technology to balance the growth for economic interests,
"The masterplan will catapult the targeted revenue of RM180bil and create more than 200,000 jobs by 2030," he told reporters after launching the 8th International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia (IGEM 2017).
Dr Maximus said the eighth edition features 350 booths from 20 countries and is set to attract over 25,000 visitors for the three-day event that aims to generate RM1.6bil in business leads for the green industry.
In his speech earlier, he said the Government introduced the Green Technology Financing Scheme (GTFS) which has been instrumental in enabling easier access to financing for green entrepreneurs, funnelling over RM3.358bil in funds for more than 302 green projects.
"Once complete, these projects will have the potential to generate RM6.468bil worth of green investments, create over 5,000 jobs, and avert emissions amounting to 3.513 million tonnes of CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent)," he added.
Dr Maximus also said that the GTFS has been instrumental in driving the growth of the green technology industry over the past seven years.
Taking that into consideration, the Government has decided to extend the scheme to enable more entrepreneurs to access it, he added.
