'Smooth criminal' who walked out of bank with RM600k arrested in Melaka

KUALA LUMPUR: The man who allegedly walked out with RM600,000 from a bank in Damansara Heights has been arrested.

Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Ruslan Khalid said police raided a house in Melaka on Thursday evening and arrested the suspect, who is in his 30s.

"I can confirm that the suspect is in our custody and will be remanded to help with investigations," he said when contacted Thursday.

It was learnt that the raiding party also recovered a portion of the stolen cash.

It was reported that police had launched a manhunt for the alleged smooth-talking criminal after he walked away with RM600,000 that he supposedly took from the safe room of the bank here on Sept 8.

Police combed through CCTV footage and took statements from various persons of interest in the case.

The suspect went into the bank and claimed to be a fire extinguisher technician.

It is learnt that the suspect did not even look the part as he was wearing Bermuda shorts and slippers.

However, the bank manager did not fall for the ruse and asked for his identification.

When he failed to do so, the manager prohibited the man from carrying out his inspection.

But as soon as the manager went out for his lunch break, the suspect managed to fool other bank personnel into giving him access to the vault.
