Subang MP confirms aides arrested in corruption probe

PETALING JAYA: PKR lawmaker Sivarasa Rasiah (pic) has confirmed that three aides, including his nephew, were arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for suspected corruption involving RM20,000.

However, the Subang MP maintained that his staff would not be involved in such practices and alleged that they were being framed.

"I reject these allegations against my staff. I know my staff well ... I have full confidence in their integrity," he said in a statement on Friday.

It was reported on Thursday that three people — a political secretary, a personal assistant and a clerk — were being probed for soliciting a bribe from a company director over an investigation on an Immigration matter.

Sivarasa said that the investigation was related to allegations of corruption that he had raised in a press conference in Parliament on Aug 9.

He said the issue was on alleged corrupt practices in the Immigration Department which involved a Bangladeshi, whom he claimed had obtained professional category work permits for Bangladeshi workers using forged documents.

"On Aug 24, I sent a letter to the Director General of Immigration enclosing my press statement and relevant documents and also sought an appointment to discuss the matter," he said.

Sivarasa, who is also a practicing lawyer, said there was "absolutely no logic" for his staff to demand payment in relation to the issue.

"My staff will fully cooperate with the investigation to ensure that the truth is arrived at," he said.
