List of Pakatan’s parliamentary candidates for GE14 almost ready

KUALA LUMPUR: Negotiations for most of the parliamentary seats to be contested by Pakatan Harapan in the 14th General Election will be completed by the end of this month.

Pakatan secretariat chief Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah (pic) also announced there would be 100 parliamentary coordinator committees to be formed.

“We have resolved most parliamentary seats and now it is the state seats. We’re going into the second stage of negotiations.

“We will settle 100 parliament seats in this month,” he said in a press conference yesterday after the secretariat council meeting.

Saifuddin said seat negotiations were also party-based and not candidate-based, adding there would be new candidates to be revealed only after Parliament was dissolved.

“We are not going into specifics,” he said, adding that the seats were divided among Pakatan’s parties comprising PKR, DAP, Amanah and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia based on their “winnability”.

“We have taken all factors into account.

“We have a good fighting chance in the seats we are contesting,” said Saifuddin, referring to the council’s decision to cease cooperation with PAS for the next general election.

It was reported that PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali had admitted having informal talks with PAS to form an alliance in GE14 but said that PKR respected the Pakatan presidential council’s decision.

Meanwhile, PKR said the party has not had any discussion with Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM)’s Sungai Siput lawmaker Dr Michael Jeyakumar on defending his seat under the former’s ticket in the next election.

PKR information chief Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh said nothing specific was discussed about Jeyakumar’s candidacy in Sungai Siput.

“At this juncture, nothing specific has been discussed, whether it is contested by PSM using our logo or theirs,” he told reporters on the sidelines.

An online portal reported that PKR had approached Jeyakumar with an offer a few months ago.
