SEA Games: Malaysia loses to Thailand 1-0 in football final

PETALING JAYA: Thailand claimed the gold medal of the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games after edging host Malaysia 1-0 in the final at the Shah Alam Stadium.

On Tuesday night,  Malaysia goalkeeper Haziq Nadzli ended up the villain after accidentally punching the ball into his own net from a corner kick in the 39th minute.

It was all reminisce of the Malaysia defeat to Thailand in the 2001 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games Finals when goalkeeper Kamarulzaman Hassan scored a similar own goal.

The Malaysian team last won the gold medal in the 2011 Jakarta SEA Games, while Thailand are the defending champions.

The team beat arch-nemesis Indonesia 1-0 in the semi-finals on Saturday night with striker N. Thanabalan scoring the sole goal with a header late in the game.
