IGP: 1MDB investigations still ongoing

Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar

KUALA LUMPUR: Investigations into 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) are still ongoing, says Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.

Responding to a demand by Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali for the police to extradite Jho Low (real name Low Taek Jho) 14 days, the Inspector-General of Police said it was not prudent to respond as investigations are still ongoing.

"However, if he (Azmin) wants to take legal action after two weeks, then go ahead.

"I will be waiting," he told a press conference after the end of the Ex-Rimau security exercises held at the Police Academy on Thursday.

On Tuesday Azmin had issued a letter of demand against Khalid demanding immediate action against Low, who was linked to 1MDB as an informal adviser.

In the letter dated Aug 1, the Selangor mentri besar via his lawyer Latheefa Koya called on Khalid to detain and extradite Low, who is alleged to have committed offences under the Penal Code and Anti Money Laundering and Anti Terrorism Financing Act 2001.
