Video footage of morning incident goes viral

KULAI: Video footage of a Perodua Myvi going against traffic near the Kulai rest area has gone viral.

In the 90-second clip yesterday morning, the Myvi was being driven on the wrong side of the road at the 34th kilometre (northbound) on the North-South Expressway.

The incident was recorded by a road user who was driving on the opposite lane.

PLUS Malaysia Bhd chief operating officer Mohammad Fuad Khusairi said the incident occurred around 8.15am.

He said the PLUS Traffic Monitoring Centre received a call from a motorist about the incident.

“A PLUS patrol team was dispatched to the scene, but upon arriving at the location, found that the Myvi had already left the scene,” he said.

He said PLUS viewed the issue seriously as it could endanger other highway users.

“We will collaborate with the police, Road Transport Department and other related agencies to stem such misbehaviour,” Mohammad Fuad said.

He urged motorists to contact PLUSLine at 1800-88-0000 if they came across any unusual activity which could pose a danger to other road users.

Kulai OCPD Supt Razak Md Said said the case was being investigated under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.

He said police would carry out investigations to identify the location of the incident, track down the driver and find out the motive behind the act.

Supt Razak urged those with information to contact the Kulai district traffic police headquarters at 07-663-4222.
