Grim scene: Policemen raiding the apartment unit at PPR Seri Semarak in Taman Setapak Jaya.
KUALA LUMPUR: The two suspects in the robbery of an illegal gambling den in Bandar Kinrara and the rape of its employee are brothers.
The siblings – one of whom died while evading arrest – are believed to be responsible for similar robberies in Selangor.
A woman involved in the case had come forward and identified the first suspect, the 26-year-old elder brother who is currently in police custody.
His 21-year-old brother died after falling from the 12th floor of an apartment block in Taman Setapak Jaya on Thursday night while trying to evade the police.
Serdang OCPD Asst Comm Megat Mohamad Aminuddin Megat Alias said a team of policemen raided a unit at PPR Seri Semarak in Taman Setapak Jaya at about 10.10pm on Thursday following a tip-off.
“The team knocked on the door several times and identified themselves as police, but the occupants refused to open the door,” he said.
The team then cut the padlock and broke down the door. They found a man and a woman in the living room.
“However, they heard noises from the kitchen and went to check. They found the suspect clinging to the grille outside the kitchen.
“The team tried to persuade the man to come back inside but he refused,” said ACP Megat Mohamad Aminuddin, adding that it was then that the suspect fell.
When the team went to check on the ground floor, the suspect was still alive, he said, adding that an ambulance was called.
The man, who had a record for two drug-related offences, was rushed to Hospital Kuala Lumpur where he was pronounced dead. The case had been classified as sudden death.
The older brother, who has a prior record for robbery in the Klang Valley, was picked up in Kuala Selangor at 5.30pm on Sunday.
