Watson Nyambek furious with TV presenter who mocked late father's name

PETALING JAYA: Former national sprinter Watson Nyambek is hopping mad with a television station presenter who mocked the name of his late father in a comedy programme on Friday.

Watson, who previously held the national 100m sprint record, said he was offended by the presenter's antics when pronouncing his father's name.

"I watched that episode and I am offended. I am considering taking legal action," he said to Bernama on Sunday.

Watson said he had never been insulted in such a manner during his entire career as an athlete, especially since it involved his father who passed away three years ago.

"I do not know what the motive of the television station is, but this is an insult to my father," he said in a post on his Facebook account.

He said that he would lodge a police report at the Miri police station.

"People mock me saying I am bankrupt – that is okay and I accept it.

"You want to ridicule me, fine. But my father should not be mocked," he wrote.

Watson's post garnered the support of many netizens who condemned the TV presenter.

Watson, who is nicknamed "the flying Dayak", held the 100m record of 10.30 seconds for 18 years before it was broken by Khairul Hafiz Jantan during the Sarawak Sukma last year.

He was declared bankrupt after he failed to pay a bank loan used to finance his father's medical costs for cancer treatment.

Watson's bankruptcy status was lifted after the Sarawak state government paid the RM80,000 owed.
