Tanker carrying aluminium powder catches fire


BINTULU: A tanker carrying aluminium powder caught fire at the Samalaju industrial estate, about 30km from here, Sunday.

Quick reaction by the Fire and Rescue Department stopped the fire from spreading and prevented a large-scale disaster such as an explosion or spillage.

The incident happened at about 11am in the industrial estate located in the Samalaju state constituency.

According to preliminary report by the Bintulu fire and rescue station, the fire started at the tyre compartment of the tanker that was carrying a cargo of aluminium powder.

Upon receiving the distress call from the tanker driver, the fire station sent several squads to the scene to put out the fire.

Firefighters said the blaze was snuffed out at 11.45am.

There was no spillage and the tanker's cargo was intact.
