Driver killed after van plunges into sewerage treatment facility in Beaufort

KOTA KINABALU: A van driver was killed when his vehicle plunged into a sewerage treatment facility near the southwestern Beaufort town late Tuesday.

Sabah Fire and Rescue spokesman Affendy Ramin said another man in the van escaped with minor injuries during the 8.30pm mishap near a roundabout at the Beaufort by-pass road.

He said the deceased had been identified as Andrew Mustal, 27, while the injured passenger was identified as Elson Isos, 22.

Affendy said the van was approaching the roundabout when the driver lost control of the vehicle which then plunged into the sewerage treatment facility.

He said Andrew was pronounced dead at the scene while Elson was rushed to the Beaufort district hospital by the department's Emergency Medical Response Services (EMRS) ambulance.
