MALACCA: The Star won an award for "Best English News Reporting" at the inaugural Malacca Media Night for its November 2016 coverage of the discovery of Majapahit relics.
Speaking at the event Sunday, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron said the state government had decided to recognise the contribution of media practitioners towards the development of the state.
"We appointed professionals from the media industry and educational institutions in our panel of judges to evaluate hundreds of articles and photographs submitted by the local media," said Idris.
He added that the awards were then endorsed by the state government and tabled at the executive council meeting.
On the relics, Idris said the state government is still keen to conduct research on the 13th-century relics, which were found at a 2km stretch along the Malacca River.
