ALOR SETAR: Police have arrested six members of the "Anggerik Gang" here, crippling the organisation believed to be involved in house break-in and car theft cases in the Kota Setar district.
Also recovered were two cars, four motorcycles, five motorcycle frames and other stolen items worth more than RM200,000.
Kota Setar OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Rozi Jidin (pic) said the suspects, aged between 23 and 39, were believed to have been involved in vehicle thefts and house break-in cases over the past six months in the district.
"On Feb 5, a task force formed to trace the gang made the first arrest of a 24-year-old man from a hotel on Jalan Anggerik.
"Five other suspects were nabbed later between Feb 5-8 at different locations in a series of raids," said ACP Mohd Rozi during a press conference at the district police headquarters.
He said all the suspects were jobless and tested positive for methamphetamine use.
He said 15 house break-in and vehicle theft cases were solved with the arrests.
ACP Mohd Rozi said the suspects have been remanded till Sunday.
The cases will be investigated under Section 457 and Section 379A of the Penal Code.
He said police were still hunting for two men identified as "Emy" and "Ah Chee", both in their 30s, who disposed of the stolen items.
