Duo plead guilty to murder bid on Indonesian

SHAH ALAM: Two jobless youths pleaded guilty at the Sessions Court here over the attempted murder of an Indonesian woman.

Mohamad Aidilfitri Mohd Powet and Muhammad Afiq Jamli, both 20, were accused of assaulting Mis­nah Sri Wahyunengsih, bundling her in a gunny sack, binding her feet and throwing her into the Klang River last Monday.

According to the charge sheet, the actions which took place at the Klang River Bridge along the LKSA (Kemuning-Shah Alam Express­way) in Seksyen 24 at 11am on Feb 6, were intended to kill her.

Both of them nodded when the charge was read out by an interpre­­ter.

The offence under Section 307 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 20 years.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Naliatul Huzaimi Ab Rasip asked for a later date to deliver the sentence to allow a behavioural report to be prepared on the two accused.

“Both are young offenders below the age of 21 as of the day of the incident and also today when they are charged.

“I request for the case to be adjourned for the Welfare Depart­ment to prepare the report,” she said.

Judge Slamat Yahya fixed March 15 for case results.

The pleas of the accused, who were not represented, were recorded but no bail was offered as the offence is not bailable.

They will continue to be remanded at the Kajang prison.

It was reported that a 37-year-old Indonesian factory worker was tied up, bundled into a gunny sack and tossed over a flyover into the river last Monday by two men.

The youths were said to be rela­ted to the man she was dating.

A passing motorist spotted the sack and notified the Fire and Rescue Department and police.

The woman was rescued and rushed to the Shah Alam Hospital.
