Johor Sultan gives his blessing for TMJ to run for FAM president

JOHOR BARU: Johor's Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar has given his blessing for his son Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail (pic) to run for Football Association Malaysia (FAM) president.

This comes after 14 representatives from FAM-affiliated bodies, including a few state football associations, had an audience with Sultan Ibrahim in the grounds of Istana Pasir Pelangi on Monday.

Malacca Football Association deputy president Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi, who led the delegation, described the meeting with Sultan Ibrahim as successful.

"The Sultan wanted to know whether our support for Tunku Ismail was genuine and we confirmed that he would receive our full support, he said in a press conference after meeting Sultan Ibrahim.

He said that with Sultan Ibrahim's blessing, Tunku Ismail would contest for the FAM president post.

"There is no reason for Tunku Ismail not to accept the nomination as he previously said he was waiting for Sultan Ibrahim to give his approval," he said.

Nominations for the FAM president post will close on Feb 13 and affiliated bodies will cast their votes on March 25.
