KUALA LUMPUR: A businessman claimed trial to cheating a company director over an investment scam to lease a hotel room in Mecca for more than RM320,000.
Sheikh Saidey Nor Sheikh Abdul Rahman, 43, pleaded not guilty before magistrate Ahmad Solihin Abd Wahid here yesterday.
He was accused of cheating Mohd Ismail Norbat by allegedly offering a lease on a non-existent hotel room in Mecca through one Nor Hazeerena Hamdan.
The victim then deposited RM324,300 into Nor Hazeerena’s bank account before the money was disbursed to eight other accounts allegedly managed by the accused.
Sheikh Saidey allegedly committed the offence at Maybank Desa Pandan here between Nov 27, 2015 and June 30 last year.
He was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years, whipping and a fine upon conviction.
DPP Noorelynna Hanim Abd Halim appeared for the prosecution.
The case is fixed for mention on Feb 14.
Sheikh Saidey is facing a string of allegations on similar accusations.
