Form Four student jumps out of car to escape rape attempt

MIRI: A 16-year-old Miri schoolgirl broke her leg when she jumped out of a moving car to escape a rape attempt by two youths whom she had befriended.

The girl, a Form 4 student, has been hospitalised in the Miri Hospital following the incident on Monday.

City police chief Asst Comm Khoo Leng Huat confirmed that the girl's father has lodged a police report over the incident.

The girl said that the two youths were both school-leavers.

She said she was in the car with the two youths as they had planned to go on an outing. However, they then drove to a secluded place in Kuala Baram.

The student said she jumped out of the car when the youths started "disturbing" her.

She said she asked to be driven home but the duo drove to a secluded place instead. It was then that she opened the car door and leapt out.

Having realised the girl was injured, the duo then drove her to the hospital and left her there before taking off.

ACP Khoo confirmed that police have arrested one person at a budget hotel over the incident.

He said the case has been classified as attempted rape.
