New list of city councillors to be tabled on Jan 4

GEORGE TOWN: The proposed new lineup of the Penang Island City councillors will be tabled on Jan 4 during the first state exco meeting.

State executive councillor Chow Kon Yeow said the nomination list would be presented at the meeting to seek approval.

“There is no exco meeting this week as many members are on holidays,” he said yesterday in Komtar, in response to enquiry on the nomination of Penang Forum member Khoo Salma Nasution.

Khoo Salma has been nominated by the group to take over from Dr Lim Mah Hui, who has declined reappointment for 2017.

Dr Lim, who has been a councillor since 2011, was among four from NGOs out of the 24 councillors who were sworn in this year.

The lineup for the 2016 term include 10 from DAP, eight from PKR, two from Amanah.

Chow also said the number of councillors from NGOs for next year would be retained.
