PETALING JAYA: The RM21bil cost for the Sungai Buloh-Kajang (SBK) MRT Line as mentioned by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was for both Phase One and Phase Two of the project.
In a statement on Saturday, Mass Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) said that the figure was for the entire 51km SBK line.
The company was responding to a recent statement by Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli claiming that the sum of RM21bil was only for Phases One of the line.
"Rafizi’s statement is totally incorrect," said the company.
Phase One of the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang (SBK) line covers 12 stations and spans 21km from Sungai Buloh to Semantan.
Phase Two of the SBK Line, which is expected to be completed by July next year, includes a 9.5km underground section from Semantan to Maluri, and a 20.5km elevated section from Maluri to Kajang.
The company added that the total cost for the line was based on the completion of the procurement process and the adoption of a stringent mechanism to control variation orders and claims.
