At ease after keeping Aedes out

Mozzies not welcome: Lee and Au showing the stainless steel mosquito net that they have installed at their home in Berapit, Bukit Mertajam.

BUKIT MERTAJAM: One family in Berapit here is taking no chances with the Aedes mosquito and the diseases it spreads.

They have spent RM4,000 on nets to keep the pesky insects out of their single-storey bungalow house.

Dr C.G. Lee, 49, said the family changed the nets on the four doors and eight windows six months ago.

“Our earlier mosquito nets, which were installed in 2000, were torn and worn out. Although RM4,000 to install mosquito nets is quite costly, it is necessary as a preventive measure,” he said when met at their home yesterday.

His wife Sem Au, 48, said that there were plenty of mosquitoes in their housing area, especially in the evening.

“When we first moved into our house in 1997, there were no mosquito nets.

“We had to keep the windows and doors closed to keep out the mosquitoes.

“We are now able to open our windows without much worry only after installing the mosquito nets,” she said.

She added that they had also installed the more durable stainless steel mosquito nets.

Au also said everyone in the family used mosquito repellent whenever they were outside the house.

“Prevention is always better than cure,” she said.

Since the family loves gardening, they also make sure there is no water collected under potted plants.
