A farewell fit for a big K-pop fan

GEORGE TOWN: Korean songs were played out loud at the Nordin Street Ghaut flats funeral parlour as family and friends bade farewell to Joice Chin Khoon Sing who was a big K-pop fan.

Among the songs played prior to the funeral rites was You Are My Everything by Gummy (the soundtrack of Korean movie Descendants of the Sun).

The cortege then left the funeral parlour at 10.30am yesterday after the religious rituals.

Joice’s brothers Khoon Ying, 26, and Khoon Feng, 11, walked behind the hearse for some 500m before they boarded a bus in Jalan Magazine to the Batu Gantong crematorium.

Led by a Buddhist monk, the family then performed the last round of funeral rites before the coffin was moved into the cremation chamber.

Her mother Yeoh Ang Hooi, 51, had to be consoled by relatives and Khoon Ying while her father Chin Chee Weng, 58, was also seen weeping.

Joice’s cousin Tan Chia Chia, 26, who grew up together with her also could not hold back her tears.

After the ceremony, Khoon Ying said the family would hold a meeting before deciding whether or not to take any legal action for her death.

Joice was crushed to death when a hook that fell from a crane hit her car in Jalan Raja Chulan in Kuala Lumpur at about 7.15pm on Thursday.

Tanjung MP Ng Wei Aik, Penang Gerakan first vice-chairman Oh Tong Keong, Tanjong MCA Youth chief Lim Swee Bok and Komtar MCA Task Force head Tan Hing Teik were also present at the funeral parlour to pay their last respects.
