Couple injured in explosion caused by gas leak

KLANG: A woman suffered 80% burns on her body while her husband was minor injuries in an explosion believed to be caused by a gas leak at their Taman Saga home in Meru here.

In the 6.30am incident on Sunday, the explosion blew off the roof of the double-storey house.

Five neighbouring houses were damaged by the blast.

The couple's three children, aged between 11 and 17, were sleeping upstairs during the incident and escaped unhurt.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Mohd Sani Harul said the explosion damaged 90% of the house, from the kitchen to the upper floor.

According to family members, the 48-year-old wife, who suffered burns on 80% of the body, was rushed to the Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah here in an ambulance.

Her 50-year-old husband, who suffered minor burns, was taken to hospital by neighbours.

The couple, who sell yong tau foo in Klang Utama, have been warded in the intensive care unit.
