19-year-old arrested for killing, chopping up grandmother


KULAI: A 19-year-old man has been arrested for the murder of his 76-year-old grandmother, who was found chopped up in several pieces at a house in Felda Pengeli Timur here.

He is believed to have severed her head and limbs and left it at different locations around the house at about 6.30pm on Tuesday.

The motive for the attack is not immediately known, but police have since recovered the murder weapon and arrested the suspect in an oil palm plantation.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Rahmat Othman said in a statement that the victim had been identified as Maimon Abdul Samad.

“Her head was found at the front door, while the rest of the body was found underneath the kitchen sink,” he added.

Supt Rahmat said that both her hands were cut off while both her legs were partially severed using a knife which was found in a flower pot outside the house.

He added that police personnel arrested the suspect at about 8.30pm, and that the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
